This initiative has been launched by Dr. Matthias Rath and Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki, who dedicated their life’s work as scientists to making free access to natural health a human right.
Dr. Rath: Already in the early 1990’s, together with the late Nobel Laureate Dr. Linus Pauling, Dr. Rath published landmark scientific discoveries establishing the role of micronutrients as key regulators in the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease, cancer and other common health problems. These discoveries were immediately attacked by pharmaceutical interests that – in order to protect their markets — demanded to make vitamins prescription drugs. This attack on vitamin freedom by special interests in the US triggered the “largest grassroot movement since the Vietnam War” (Newsweek). The result of this public debate was a unanimous decision by US Congress in August 1994 to guarantee free access to vitamins in the ‘Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act’ . This law ended a century of restriction of natural health and led to an unprecedented explosion of scientific studies in natural health science since.
Dr. Niedzwiecki: She has been a colleague of Dr. Rath since their collaboration at the Linus Pauling Institute in the early 1990s. After the death of the Nobel Laureate and the foundation of the Dr. Rath Research Institute she became its director and made this institute a pioneering institution in the fight for the right of mankind to liberate itself from preventable diseases. This research was also instrumental to overcome dozens of legal attacks by the status quo since.
In retrospect, the work of Dr. Rath and Dr. Niedzwiecki has been instrumental in helping to significantly reduce mortality from heart attacks globally and to establish vitamins as key factors in the fight against cancer as well as many infectious diseases.
The current efforts of special interests to limit free access to vitamins and make them prescription drugs globally is a reaction to these major advances. Dr. Rath and Dr. Niedzwiecki feel that it is incumbent upon them at this very moment in history to call upon the people of the world to defend their rights to natural health and preventive medicine – and make unrestricted access a human right for this generation as well as for all future generations.
